I have to be honest, Thanksgiving wasn’t everything I hoped for. My mom and I had talked numerous times about how we were going to have healthier food during the holidays, but what does healthy even mean?
Merriam Webster says healthy means:
2: evincing health <a healthy complexion>
3: conducive to health <walk three miles every day … a beastly bore, but healthy — G. S. Patton>
It seems like the people I know visualize healthy as eating salads for every meal and getting up for runs at 5am. I haven’t been doing that exactly, but I have been feeling healthy overall.
On Thanksgiving, I felt like I was enjoying health and vigor of body, mind and spirit. While the food was cooking, spending time with my mom, sister, and nephew, then eating, it was great. Later, there was vigor of the body, mind, and spirit, but I wasn’t enjoying.
I didn’t see myself when I google searched healthy complexion, or many people that looked much like me. I do think my complexion is pretty healthy, evincing, if you will.
I try to do things that are conducive to health. I’ve been telling you a bit a about that.
With definition 4 in mind, healthy becomes a matter of perspective.
Prosperous? I’d say yes. I’ve got life, love, and feeling damn good. My dad would say I’m hanging out on the poverty line, but that’s that good motivation. Thanks Daddy!

I’m not trying to be eliminated, I be lemon-aided.
Seriously, lemons are important, but more about that later.
I’m not small or feeble.
The man in my life and my aunties both think I look healthy, but there’s a distinct difference between the two.
One makes me feel confident about my curves….
and the other makes me want to go the gym, but accidentally end up in a drive thru on the way home.
And no, the rude comments don’t keep me from eating the food that I know is fattening me up. I don’t think twice about taking a to-go plate either. Actually, at this point in my life, I take tupperware.
This Thanksgiving was no different, except I knew better.
You know the phrase, “if you knew better, you’d do better?”
Well sometimes, you do know better, and you still don’t do better. It’s a shame that it has to be that way, but it is.

This is “the holidaze” after all.
New Years is just around the corner, and being healthier is undoubtedly on most people’s list in one way or another, AGAIN. Why wait? Why not start now? And check in OFTEN! How else do you think this resolution thing is going to work?

Well, not if you’ve already watched 3 seasons that day.
This might not be a good mantra for eating cupcakes either.
When it comes to heart attacks, you know, the leading cause of death in the United States, there won’t always be another one.
2017 is on it’s way, and Christmas is even closer, so let’s keep our hearts pumping!
